Interview with John SJ Anderson (aka genehack)

Do you still wonder if you should learn Perl? Do you know someone who is still undecided about it? Would you like to see the trainer before committing to the course?

In this interview John Anderson, the trainer of the Zero 2 Perl master class talks about his background as biologist. How he turned to be a sysadmin, then a DevOps engineer, before that was even called DevOps, and finally a programmer.

He even tells you when should you learn Perl.

Links and notes can be found on the Perl Maven site.

http://www.yapcna.org/yn2013/wiki?node=ArrivalDinner

Sunday Night June 2 at 7PM, we’ve booked a Palapa Party at the Hula Huthttp://www.hulahut.com/  Located at The Lake Austin Dam, The Hula Hut is a unique Austin experience and worth the short drive out of downtown to get to it.

We’ll have our own area with its own alcohol bar for quick refills. Alcohol is on your own dime. Fountain drinks are $3 with free refills.

Due to the size of previous arrival dinners, we had to get a buffet style dinner for this. $23 dollars gets you a Fajita Bar, including Hula Hut Signature Beef and Chicken Fajitas. For the vegan crowd, there are also vegan fajitas. Queso, salsa and chips are served at the table.

Next Door is a coffee house with some nice dessert options for you to choose from, should you still have room in your belly when we’re done eating and drinking.

We’ve reserved a space that can seat 120. This year, we’re going to try requiring payment in advance via ACT to reserve your spot. If you need to pay for more than 2 people, please just make an additional donation via ACT for $23 x head count and email admin@yapcna.org. We can also take credit cards for your additional head count when you get there but it is easier for all concerned if you pay in advance via ACT.

Fajitas:

Signature Beef, Chicken

Vegan Fajitas:

Tossed together in a plum sauce are: zucchini, squash, bell peppers, mushrooms, sprouts, carrots

Additionally, everyone gets these, most of which are vegan:

flour and corn tortillas
